Congratulations Employee of the Month!
The Haven exists as a resource for independence and a champion for inclusion for people of all ages with disabilities. Together, we can create a world where people with disabilities are included and celebrated for who they truly are — talented and incredible human beings. We make it a point to hire positive, compassionate, hard-working individuals who want to enjoy going to work, not only for a paycheck but for a rewarding place where we can make a difference. The Haven offers a competitive benefits package, extensive training, and many fun extras and perks.
We’re excited to feature Marianne, one of our Montessori Inclusion Educator’s, in this month’s employee spotlight.
What do you do as a Montessori Inclusion Educator?
I work as a Montessori Inclusion Educator with the Selby Preschool at The Haven. My passion is helping all children and their families receive the best start to the rest of their lives as possible. My co-teacher, Penny, and I have worked as a team for five years now and we work seamlessly in assisting and guiding children to their fullest potential. My strengths are in behavior modification and implementation of curriculum to meet all the educational and social needs and varying capabilities of our students.
What do you love most about The Haven?
I love the sense of community we have at The Haven. I have seen many changes over the past eight years and the one thing that has never changed is the family-type atmosphere between staff and clients. We all know and care about one another. The children enjoy when the adults in the Haven Industries program bring lunch or clean the preschool classrooms because the adults are eager to say hello and ask the children about their day.
What’s one of your favorite stories of how you helped a client?
My favorite story is involves a recent interaction with one of our students. She is a child with Downs Syndrome and has been in our school for several years. She is on the young side of the school calendar and was slated to start Kindergarten in the fall but our team and her mother felt that she wasn’t ready. Through many meetings and discussions (including MUCH paperwork) we were able to convince the school board that this student would benefit from an extra year of Pre-K. This would allow her family to save her McKay scholarship funding for when she is ready to begin kindergarten and build her Pre-K skills so she can be successful for Kindergarten next year. Stories like hers matter to me because it is the reason we do what we do at The Haven – to better the lives of those we serve and to help them achieve great things.
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I am a wife of almost 28 years, mother of three grown children (who all live on their own), a Noni to a 3 year-old grandson and a minion educator. I LOVE Disney and it appears to be an inherited trait! My eldest daughter and son-in-law both work at Disney. My family loves to travel and explore but it goes without saying that our happy place is Disney! In December I will graduate with my Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education. I have called Florida home for nearly 16 years but I am originally from northern Virginia. Most of our families followed us down here when once we relocated. You could say that we moved to Florida so we could be closer to Disney!
What is your favorite inspiring quote or thought?
